FIRST EDITION. 2 vols, quarto, folding map and 66 engraved plates, of which 6 are double page, and only two are coloured. Contemporary morocco gilt ruled borders to boards, spine in gilt compartments, lettered in gilt and with marbled edges and endpapers. Dowel made two trips to Greece, in 1801 to the Troad and Ionian Islands with William Gell, and then more extensively in 1805-06 when on parole as a French prisoner in company with the artist Simone Pomardi.
